HEC, Professional Bodies Discuss Delivery of Academic Programmes in Higher Learning Institutions
On August20, 2025, the Higher Education Council (HEC) held a consultative meeting with various professional bodies operating in Rwanda to discuss how to formalize and strengthen collaboration to enhance the quality of education in higher learning institutions in curriculum development and the delivery of academic programs.
The objective of the meeting was to provide a platform for dialogue between HEC and professional bodies on the quality of education and the relevance of academic programs in Higher Learning Institutions (HLIs).
The workshop also aimed at collecting input and insights on how to engage and develop collaboration framework between HEC and professional bodies in Rwanda. Ensure that professional bodies are involved in the curriculum development process, revision, delivery and assessment of academic programs.
In his opening remarks DG HEC stated that HEC recognizes the vital role that the Professional bodies play in ensuring that academic programs reflect the labor market needs, quality standards and emerging trends within their respective Fields and Sectors.
He also highlighted the importance of professional bodies as custodians of industry standards and ethics, given their deep understanding of industry needs. They provide critical insights into the skills, competencies, and practices required in their fields, ensuring graduates are both academically qualified and professionally competent.
“We need to ensure that education delivered in HLIs aligns with evolving labor market needs, professional standards, and global competitiveness, enabling Higher Learning Institutions to receive timely feedback and insights on the evolving demands of the labor market.”He stated.
Dr.KADOZI reminded participants of HEC’s mission to enhance the quality of higher education and ensure graduates are equipped to contribute to Rwanda’s socio-economic development. He emphasized that this engagement ensures education in HLIs aligns with national development goals, and prepares graduates for global competitiveness.
Participants shared best practices, identified challenges in aligning curricula with industry needs, and discussed a partnership framework to engage professional bodies in curriculum development and program delivery.
