On August 19, the Higher Education Council (HEC) held a meeting with the management of Mount Kigali University to review and provide preliminary planning approval for newly submitted PhD programs in Nursing and Business Administration. The discussions focused on ensuring the quality of the proposed programs, particularly the readiness of the university to deliver them through qualified and adequate faculty.
 

HEC also met with the management of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Rwanda (AIMS Rwanda), to review its application for the preliminary planning approval of a PhD program in Mathematical Sciences.
 

During the meetings, the Director General of HEC, Dr. Edward Kadozi, emphasized the importance of designing PhD programs that strengthen research capacity and academic scholarship. He urged Higher Learning Institutions to prioritize quality and innovation in program development, to advance knowledge generation, enhance teaching in universities, and contribute significantly to Rwanda’s and the region’s research and development agenda.
